Costly Communities

Gaps in social connection have profound impact. This causes skyrocketing healthcare spending and decline in mental and physical health outcomes across the U.S. Social isolation, according the U.S. Surgeon General in 2023, increases the risk of heart attack by 29%, the risk of stroke by 32%.

Under-Resourced Shelters

Simultaneously, 7 million pets enter animal shelters in the United States, with nearly 1 million euthanized due to over-crowding. These‍ lives are being entirely wasted, when millions of people need routine, companionship, and the community they can bring.

Missed Opportunity

The largest barrier to permanent animal adoption is financial constraint, yet this limit is not related to a person’s true capacity and capability to care for an animal. The cost of veterinary care, housing restrictions, transportation, and daily support often makes responsible pet ownership feel out of reach for those who need it most and are completely capable of providing it.

THE SOLUTION

Our program underwrites the entire lifetime care of the animal upon placement. We provide training, in-home care, and create supportive structure to boost permanent placements, while our rehoming support provides relief to those worried about their pet’s future. Rescue Bond Initiative seeks to underwrite the entire lifetime care of each animal, while placing them with permanent homes. The care follows the animal’s life, giving guardians peace of mind for their pet’s future.

We will follow a pilot to scale model, partnering firstwith local experts in concentrated ecosystems across the Hudson Valley. Rescue Bond Initiative will utilize our pilot phase to identify the cost model most poised to match or reduce the current shelter cost for these animals. Upon reaching our pilot conclusion, we will move forward with our scaled solution for meaningfully tackling U.S. shelter capacity constraint before 2030.

When the bond is supported, it can last a lifetime.

  • Riata Browne

    FOUNDER & CEO

    Riata Browne began RBI in 2025. Riata brings a 15-year background in corporate operations and revenue leadership, where she led large-scale teams and built systems designed for performance and accountability. Her work has consistently centered on creating structure in complex, high-stakes environments.

    Riata founded RBI to address the gaps she saw in traditional rescue, where too many placements rely on hope rather than support. At RBI, Riata leads overall vision, program design, and execution—building the systems, partnerships, and infrastructure required to ensure placements are built to last, not just to succeed initially.

  • David S. Landay, Esq.

    EARLY ADVISOR - PARTNERSHIPS & STORYTELLING

    David Landay brings decades of experience across Broadway production, nonprofit formation, philanthropy, and mission-based consumer brand development. His work includes helping launch Broadway Cares during the AIDS crisis, supporting CRI/CRIA’s restructuring and continuation of community-based AIDS research, and building practical resources for people navigating serious illness.

    Today, David actively builds and expands Purefetta, a food brand rooted in inclusion at the table—ensuring high-quality meals are accessible to those with dietary needs, without compromise. At RBI, David advises on storytelling, nonprofit infrastructure, partnerships, and scale, helping turn mission into durable systems of care.

    EARLY ADVISOR - TRAINING & ANIMAL BEHAVIOR

    Lauren’s mission began in 2023 with the founding Sit. Stay. Stella., a training and behavior practice helping dogs and their guardians build lasting, trust-based relationships. Originally based in Manhattan and now expanded into Brooklyn, her work emphasizes practical, humane training grounded in real-life dynamics. She brings a deep understanding of the early placement stages, where success or failure is often determined. At RBI, Lauren shapes training and early bond formation—translating theory into day-to-day success in the home.

  • John Bartlett

    EARLY ADVISOR - RESCUE STRATEGY & LONG-TERM PLACEMENT

    John Bartlett is the founder of Tiny Tim Rescue Fund, a New York–based organization dedicated to senior and special-needs dogs. His work centers on the animals most often left behind, with a focus on long-term care, medical complexity, and placement durability, both through Tiny Tim and a recent engagement on a Dutchess County shelter board seat. He continues to expand Tiny Tim’s reach and impact, advocating for sustainable solutions for high-risk populations. At RBI, John brings a critical lens on long-term outcomes—ensuring placements are built to last, not just to succeed initially.
